Abstract:	Preventing food waste is one of the important challenges along the entire food chain. How do they do it and what are the problems? How are food waste handled in the food industry? How do they enforce sustainable food management in different parts of the food chain? Can packaging waste be returned for reuse? An example of the completion of the food chain is a consumer who benefits from a public procurement system. How good is their work? These are individual details in the mosaic of a specific food chain that enable the sustainable management of food, packaging and waste.

Marta Klanjšek Gunde

National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Department of Materials Chemistry

Marta Klanjšek Gunde, PhD in physics and associated professor of graphic technology at University of Ljubljana, works as senior researcher at National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana, Slovenia, within the Department of Materials Chemistry. She is the author of more than 120 scientific articles in peer-reviewed and impacted scientific journals, 4 patents, 5 chapters in scientific books and many conference presentations. She was leading several scientific research projects, mentoring 9 PhDs, many master- and diploma works. Her expertise includes advanced materials for various applications in microelectronics, solar-thermal energy conversion, smart coatings, optical security, printed electronics, and thermochromics. Her current work is devoted to R&D of printed functionalities, preferentially for smart packaging, where several challenges of food supply chain are also addressed. She initiated and co-founded the start-up company MyCol, the spin-off of the Institute, working with chromogenic materials for graphic technology applications to identify temperature changes.

Jelka Rozman, B.Sc. dipl. biol., is the director for quality in the Žito Group. She combines extensive experience in establishing, managing, assessing and teaching food quality and safety systems. She is EOQ Quality system Manager since 2009, leading assessor of food quality and safety management systems at SIQ, where she also lectures and transfers knowledge to younger generations.

Head of corporate communication - Ljubljanske mlekarne (Ljubljana dairies)

Luka Potočnik is the organizer of meals at the Kranjski vrtci institution (Kindergartens of Kranj municipality). Together with the team of organizers of nutrition, health, and hygiene regime he participates in the preparation of sets and set of foods of the current public procurement system with special attention to food and excluded / local sets of food. During the duration of the public procurement, he is in charge of monitoring the consumption of food resources and communicating with suppliers.
