Abstract: Okvirne pogoje za doseganje visokih ciljev na področju preskrbe s hrano daje strategija za manj izgub in odpadne hrane, ki jo je postavilo Ministrstvo za kmetijstvo, gospodarstvo in prehrano. Pomemben element so tudi sheme kakovosti živil, ki označujejo pristne in zaščitene proizvode. Prehranska veriga uporablja embalažo – kakšen je njen pomen za zdravje? Velike zahteve so pomembne za izdelovanje embalaže – katere tehnološke izzive rešujejo in kako jih je mogoče izvesti pri zahtevah večkratne rabe? Med pomembnimi podatki za embalažo je tudi njen okoljski odtis, ki naj ovrednoti njen vpliv od »zibelke do groba«.

Marta Klanjšek Gunde, PhD in physics and associated professor of graphic technology at University of Ljubljana, works as senior researcher at National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana, Slovenia, within the Department of Materials Chemistry. She is the author of more than 120 scientific articles in peer-reviewed and impacted scientific journals, 4 patents, 5 chapters in scientific books and many conference presentations. She was leading several scientific research projects, mentoring 9 PhDs, many master- and diploma works. Her expertise includes advanced materials for various applications in microelectronics, solar-thermal energy conversion, smart coatings, optical security, printed electronics, and thermochromics. Her current work is devoted to R&D of printed functionalities, preferentially for smart packaging, where several challenges of food supply chain are also addressed. She initiated and co-founded the start-up company MyCol, the spin-off of the Institute, working with chromogenic materials for graphic technology applications to identify temperature changes.

She is currently responsible for preparing a Strategy for Less Food Loss and Waste in the Food Supply Chain, where she formulates key system solutions and other more demanding materials within the Directorate of Food.

Jana Kolenc Muženič is a chemist with almost 20 years of experience in the food industry in the field of system quality control and food safety. She is also an evaluator within the procedure for Recognition of the Republic of Slovenia for Business Excellence. Recently, she was employed at Slovenian Association for Quality and Excellence as an executive director, and currently works within SIQ Ljubljana (Slovenian Institute for Quality and Metrology) as a leader of food sector.

Dr. Viviana Golja is a chemist who deals with materials in contact with food at the National Institute of Public Health. She is a member of the Expert Committee on Food Contact Materials operating at the Council of Europe, the EFSA FIP Network for Risk Assessment of Food Contact Materials, the EFSA NANO Network for Risk Assessment of the Use of Nanotechnology in Food and Feed, and the Chair of the Technical Packaging Committee in Slovenia. Institute for Standardization. She also cooperates with the Ministry of Health and the Health Inspectorate in dealing with food contact materials.

Dr. Diana Gregor Svetec is a full professor at the Department of Textiles, Graphics and Design, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, at the University of Ljubljana. Her work in on the field of materials, including characterization of the properties of graphic and textile materials, printing substrates and packaging. Recently, she has been dealing with smart packaging, ecological planning and sustainable development of printed matter and packaging.

Dr. Gregor Radonjič is a full professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business, at the University of Maribor, where he teaches the Packaging and other subjects related to environmental protection. He is the head of the Department of Technology and Entrepreneurial Environmental Protection. He works with the impact assessment of products on the environment (Life-Cycle Assessment, LCA, and carbon footprint), ecodesign of packaging and environmental management in companies. He is also a member of the expert committee for the award “Oscar” for packaging.
